My Role. UX design from conception to delivery including user research, concept development, prototyping followed by visual and interaction design. Project goal. Design an app for Florists that allows users to easily manage their business on the go. The challenge. Currently, there isn't a handy digital tool for professional florists to manage their business. Target audience. Profesional florists. |
Research
In order to understand the users better and ensure I’m designing for their needs, I have conducted interviews and created empathy maps to. A primary user group identified through research
was a practicing florist.
Pain points were identified, that were passed onto ideation stage.

Initial design concepts
Ideation. Paper wireframe have been drawn out as the first step of planning the layout of the app. Early sketching helps not only with the plan of the design but is also a powerful visual tool that helps you organise the site's architecture.
Digital wireframes and Prototypes. After some drafts, modified ideas were transferred into digital wireframes, mixing and matching elements while shaping the more final product. Once connected into low fidelity prototypes, the app was ready for initial user testing.

User testing
Two rounds of usability studies have been conducted. Findings from the first study helped guide the designs from wireframes to mockups. The second study used a high-fidelity prototype and revealed what aspects of the mockups needed refining.
Round 1 findings
1. Users found creating new order a little confusing
2. Users found the home page a little busy
Round 2 findings
1. Design could use a little bit more of negative space
2. Media upload options needed to include more ways to introduce images

Final product
Initial wire frames had a the basic layout that was refines in the mockup stage, adding clear colour markings and effects like the bright yellow floating ‘Create new’ button and sorting options.

The second usability study revealed frustration with the business of the home page. This has been addressed in further developments by introducing clear sections and illustrations to help to guide users to different categories of functions

High-fidelity prototype
The final high-fidelity prototype included more straightforward user flows for creating new orders and invoicing for the completed ones. Animated menu provided easy and fast way to jump from one section to another.

Takeaways & Future development
Impact
Users shared that the platform would be an attractive option to not only find specialised help regarding DIY but also join of like-minded community. What I learned
Seeing users interact with the prototypes and hearing their feedback highlighted some crucial functionality that was left out, proving users know best. Development Next steps would involve: 1. Develop further pages in the app to add extended functionality. 2. Conduct more user research to determine any new areas of need. |
